••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
I live in Belgium, we live here in what is called a capitalist economic system. This is how I view capitalism: a game - similar to Monopoly - and the objective of that game is to get richer and richer. This game of capitalism is also our* life - I claim capitalism is life because this ideology has a permanent effect on us, the political ideology in which we stand is indissociable of the being we are, it has too much impact on the events surrounding us. I spoke with my dad about the idea of game I give to life/capitalism, he told me it wasn't a game but solely a sad reality.
We are in 2016, the economic crisis doesn't seem about to end. This will soon be ten years since we started bearing it (reminder: in 2007, the subprimes crisis, bringing about the actual economic crisis, began). Who or what is responsible for that disastrous economic crisis? It is capitalism, it has created a situation that is not fun anymore.
I can't bear this idea! Oh no.
I said it, for me, life is a game and if the game is not fun anymore, at one point, you must stop. By analogy, I could take "Life is Beautiful", a 1997 film directed by Roberto Benigni in which a Jew father deported in a camp during World War II tricks his son into believing they are actually playing a game in that camp. It works for a moment. Then, the son decides the game is not as fun as it used to be and decides to stop playing. His father tells him it is a shame to stop playing when you have started and then the child, for his father, accepts to keep on playing. In the warfare situation where they are, we understand his father does what he does to protect his son and use of arguments that are not necessarily relevant like the argument of "it is a shame to stop playing when you have started" even though the child doesn't find the game fun anymore. When a game is not fun anymore, it has to stop. Nobody can make you play a game you don't like.
I say it again: our economic system lead us into the economic crisis we bear today.
The solution that I suggest is engagist capitalism : we keep the rules of capitalism, we simply add a penalizing rule in case of an economic crisis spreading over ten years: an egalitarian redistribution of the world's fortune/fortune in the bosom of a Union between States/the State's fortune is enforced.
Everybody is back to start point - which means an equal sharing of all the wealth for each individual.
This has some drawbacks, I conceive it, and it is rightly those drawbacks that will raise worry to the richest, who will feel compelled to do something, otherwise they could lose their wealthy person status (if company owners, they could however rebuild a good fortune quite quickly (see further in the text for more details)). To summarize, once an economic crisis starts, a countdown starts. We will therefore need to work together to get our economy back up on its feet, fighting, at the same time, the glorified individualism of our society. We would all be in the same boat in situation of economic crisis, not solely anymore will the poor have to pay the price.
And then, if we fail [to get out of the economic crisis before the ten years have passed], quite ironically but in positive way, the inflicted "penalty" is not only penalizing - a lot of people could gain benefit from it. Of course, company owners would still have their hands on their company/companies and should get their financial ease back between their hands quite quickly even though it could happen that in a month - after ten years living under the status of "rich person" - they lose between 90 and 99% of their fortune. At the same time, the former "poor" receive a way to avoid redoing the same mistakes that put them in that situation of poverty or to take advantage of a fortune they never had (strained family financial situation, the fact that they come from a social class it is hard to get out of etc.)
I suggest that in order for an economic crisis to be estimated over, it must be so for at least four months minimum without any return to a period of economic crisis and declared so by a team of experts. A period of exit out of the economic crisis for three months will not count as to set the counter back to zero if a return into the economic crisis occurs. I estimated that four months should constitute a good period of time to give a reliable verdict. That being said, I am open to constructive criticism if you think that a longer period of time would be more appropriate - or shorter even tough I doubt of it.
What will happen to the banks in case of exceeding of the economic crisis duration limit (what we can also call an exceeding of the Limit**)? To be able to redistribute everything, they will be emptied.
Would engagist capitalism work at a a national scale - at world scale, I don't see why it wouldn't work - if we exclude the communist countries… Besides, I also wonder if we would find ourselves in a weaker position beside them [the communist countries] if we exceeded the Limit - bringing about almost instantaneously an equal sharing of the wealth. But let's return to the basic question: "Would it work at a a national scale?". Not having done any economy studies, I will here however try to make a first hypothesis but it is to read with the conscience that I am not a specialist in economy.
The adoption of engagist capitalism would lead the now engagist capitalist country to get out of the traditional capitalist system and in case of exceeding of the Limit, it is all the fortune held in the country, I think, that should be redistributed, this would lead to a closing of the boarders and bank transactions and traditional capitalist countries would probably therefore receive an embargo from the engagist capitalist country who "lost [the game]"/exceeded the Limit (I'm here always trying to answer the question of knowing if engagist capitalism would work at a national scale). This embargo would only be temporary because engagist capitalism doesn't seek to install autarchy and its main fight is the one against poverty and for decent human rights - even though we can also see it as an opponent against individualism as I already said earlier.
Also, even though I seek to know how it would work at a national scale, the creation of a Union between different countries would be encouraging and even desired for more efficiency (above all if it is to counter an economic crisis that spread over the boarders); and if an exceeding of the Limit occurred, it would lead to a sharing of the wealth to all the individuals in the countries member of that Union.
The economic crisis is a mist that we can await the departure of but in the meantime, it immobilizes us because we don't see clearly enough anymore, our sight is blocked by money, money we barely see quite strangely and that starts to gain too much in importance compared to what we could achieve with it and who knows for how much longer? We need to be able to find back the essence of the human being, to be able to stop panicking about our economic future. What I suggest is a way to be able to go ahead in the future without thinking that we are going to be given up on on the way; the economic crisis, we fight it together where we don't want of it.
